There are worse ways to spend a weekend.

The génépi divide

We were stoked to be part of Altra & Peak Divide's beta-test in the Alps. A two-day 52km run shuffle across the Swiss-French border, Martigny to Chamonix.

The Génépi Divide maintained the classic Divide format. An ultra run; split across two palatable days with restaurant grade sit-down lunches pretending to be 'aid stations', with an overnight in a refuge.

Our ltd edition SUMS x Altra socks made their debut... a lively little design to turn heads.

Day 1. Martigny to Trient. 25km, 2000m of elevation gain.

After a 4km trot out of Martigny, we reached the first pit stop: a winery. Local cheeses were sampled & water topped up.

Then onto the day's elevation gain (2000km), in one big mountain-climbing hit. Poles out, power hike on.

A smorgasbord of local produce awaited us in an alpine wildflower meadow near the top of the climb.

Full and eager to get moving, we summited the Mont de l'Arpille & descended fast via technical downhill trails toward the glacier bar. Ice cold Génépi was served fresh off the Trient Glacier.

A steady shuffle into the valley rounded off a perfect day dans la montagne.

The second day of The OG Peak Divide (Edale to Sheffield) starts with a steady hike up - The Génépi Divide was no different - can't go round it, can't go under it... so straight up 1000m.

The ridges at the top were broken up by icy sections - slowing the troop down, bringing welcome pauses & timely reminders to stop and enjoy the view.

The ice-capped summits of the Mont Blanc massif & the Chamonix Valley were dramatically unveiled as the trail rounded off. We briefly paused at the Refuge du Col de Balme, before a 2km flowy trail to lunch.

We shuffled steadily into the Chamonix valley & after 15 hours on the feet over the weekend, the iconic Chamonix church was a welcome sight.

Pinch-me views, wonderful camaraderie & world-class trail running. A sublime weekend. Hats off to the Peak Divide crew & Altra.
