NO ONE LEFT BEHIND

by Ed Vickers

Not all charities are made equal. Meet The Outrunners, our charity partner hosting run groups and mentoring for unrepresented communities across East London.

It took some time to figure out which charity we wanted to back through our pledge-per-run model. But when we met Tyler, founder and head coach at The Outrunners, we knew we found our sole mates. After all, there are arguably many societal problems we face in 2023 that could be mitigated (or very least minimised) simply by better investing in and supporting young people.

As you know as a runner, the benefits of running are boundary-less. Going beyond just health wins, but doing wonders for our confidence and feeling part of community. A potent mix of good things to be able to offer those navigating the tricky terrain of growing up in London.

In founder Tyler’s words, “The Outrunners have built the type of community we want to see across London between all ages. We’ve grown it organically through our one-to-one mentoring programme that links our Outrunners youth members with mentors from our adult running club in order to support children in their last year of primary school who are struggling with the transition into secondary school. We also host regular career events which, to date, has worked with around 1000 young people to help them think through their futures and next step. Additionally, we also put on various movement and running groups to get underrepresented groups moving. Our dream this next year is to continue to grow our community and expand our reach. The Outrunners and SUMS are a good fit, as we both share a firm belief in the altruistic nature of runners who want to give back. This outlook is at the heart of what we do, how we started and what sustains us today.”

So every time you run, you’ll be chipping into a pot that’s supporting to The Outrunners each month. The monthly SUMS will start small but if we can rally enough runners to join us those numbers will become meaningful, fast.

LET'S GET TO IT.
