We met Danny Lane at the Peak Divide camp in Edale after a lengthy day running in the hills. The sort of day where your legs are gone but your heart is full. Over the campfire, he let us into a little something called the Superzone.
"It’s not a place. It’s a feeling."
“A mate and I came up with it years ago as an ode to ‘screw the stats’ and just do it for the feeling” Danny told us.
“It’s like a weightless state, totally free, floating over the terrain. Even when things get tough, you just keep going with a smile.”
For Danny, the Superzone is where effort meets joy. It’s when you stop checking your watch and just run. No pace goals, no pressure. Just a flow that reminds you why you fell in love with running in the first place.
“When you stop trying so hard and fall into rhythm, that’s when it happens,” he says. "Even when you’re completely wrecked, these little moments appear out of nowhere, and you’re just totally immersed in it."
At SUMS, we hard relate and it's everything we stand for.
Tom Evans mentioned that his mindset for his UTMB win this year was to want it less & find the love for running again. This approach in your running can not only make it more enjoyable but can also elevate performance.
“You can’t measure happiness, but it gives you an edge. If you can tap into it, you can endure almost anything.” - Tom Evans.
